Why put forth extra effort to decorate the Easter table? Asking why we choose to do certain tasks is always a good place to start when making decisions both big and small. As someone who desires to live a life of intentionality this is a question, I ask myself frequently. So, what is my why for creating a pretty tablescape for special occasions?
As long as I remember preparing for holidays meant bringing out certain dishes and decorations. There was a certain excitement in the air. As a young child I was always eager to help my mom put out seasonal touches. This desire only grew as I grew up and had a home of my own. When children came along, I wanted to make our home special for them, especially during the major holidays throughout the year.
Typically, our daily dining table is filled with books, bags and computers. With two college-aged sons who live at home and a mostly work from home husband this is just how it is. The only time that I get to experience a clean, pretty table is when I host an event. Thus, I look forward to these rare times and take full advantage of them when I can!
Each season/holiday provides an opportunity to have a blank slate to create a new look. I enjoy changing things around somewhat frequently to keep things looking fresh. It is fun to search for new ideas each season, collect new and old items and then arrange them in meaningful ways. As the keeper of my home, it is a fun and creative outlet for me.
Another benefit of putting in the extra effort for a pretty tablescape is that it is a simple way to bless others. Setting the table apart from the daily dining experience is a way to show others that you care. Fresh flowers, cloth napkins, lit candles, name tags and candy are not part of most people’s usual dining experience. It is a simple way to set the day off as something special or out of the ordinary. The Golden Rule teaches us to “treat others as you want to be treated”. Who doesn’t enjoy being treated special from time to time?
With Easter fast approaching the special preparations have taken place as a signal that something significant is about to take place. For Christians worldwide it is a time to celebrate! Special food and a carefully crafted table to sit at with friends and family help usher on this joyous occasion!

Items Used
- Cloth Runner – This burlap runner was purchased a few years ago from Hobby Lobby (I think).
- Wooden board used as an additional runner – This wood platform serves as a flat, stable surface to place items on. My husband cut and stained this pine board.
- Floral Centerpiece in wooden box – My son constructed the wood box for me, while I filled it with real plants, a wooden cross and an abandoned birdhouse found in a tree in my backyard.
- Candle holders and candles – The small white birdcages were purchased at Hobby Lobby. The bronze candle holders were gifted to me for Christmas. Tea lights and drippy pillar candles finish the look.
- Burlap Placemats – Purchased from Hobby Lobby a few years ago.
- Plates and silverware – These white plates were purchased from Target. The dotted edging are fancy enough for special occasions, while still working well for everyday dining.
- Place settings – Tiny tin pails (purchased at Hobby Lobby) filled with rocks, faux grass, wrapped chocolate eggs and chalkboard sticks with names on them make for a fun and festive place setting.
- Cloth napkins and floral holders – These versatile, classic green napkins make their appearance on our table throughout the year. Here, they are simply gathered in the middle and strewn through these pretty burlap napkin holders (also a Hobby Lobby find).

Conclusion
The table is set! Each year brings a new opportunity to bring in new colors, designs and decorative elements to your Easter table. Usually, I shop around the house first to gather, collect and arrange items already owned for my table. Then, adding in fresh flowers and any new touches are all that’s needed to bring the look together. Hopefully, you too will be inspired to enjoy the process of decorating the Easter table.
